The Razer’s Blade line of gaming laptops have always been high end. They’re expensive, but you’re certain to get a quality rig for the price you pay. And the Razer Blade RZ09 is the current king of the Blade gaming line of laptops.
Just to be clear from the start, this is a high performance laptop. It’s aimed not just at gamers, but specifically at gamers who want to play the newest and hottest games on the market. If you’re doing heavy duty graphic design or video editing, this might be a laptop that interests you too.
This is a gaming laptop that comes in under $2,000, which is good for a high end gaming laptop. However, if you’re just looking for a mobile laptop to do basic computing tasks like internet browsing and word documents, this is not the machine for you. You can find much more cost efficient machines you’ll be more than happy with.
Now that that’s out of the way, to all my gamers still reading, let’s check out Razer’s beast of a high end gaming laptop.
Exterior
Let’s start with the outside, because that’s the first thing about the Razer RZ09 that you’ll notice. The first thing that interested me about this laptop is that it’s a very high performing laptop, but it’s also very portable.
It comes with a 14” screen, which isn’t as large as most gaming laptops, which come in at about 17”. Furthermore, it’s only 4.2 lbs. And 0.7 inches thick when closed. This is significantly smaller and thinner than other laptops billed as gaming machines. Yet, despite this small size, it still packs an incredibly powerful punch as far as performance is concerned.
On top of packing a lot of power in a little pod, it looks fantastic as well. The laptop comes with a green backlit keyboard, which feels like something straight out of a sci fi movie. The exterior also feels strong and very well built. It’s still light, but feels impervious to damage.
They keyboard does not feature a number pad on the side, as this is only a 14” laptop. However, it’s an extremely responsive keyboard that has a great feel. It also features and anti ghosting feature, which means the keyboard will pick up as many key presses as you can throw at it. Most other laptop keyboards stop picking up new button presses after about four or five. This is an important feature for any serious gamers.
The speakers are upward facing, located on the sides of the keyboard. They produce quality sound at a satisfying volume. The bass even sounds relatively good, which is rare for a laptop.
back to menu ↑Performance
Once you get past the exterior of the Razer Blade RZ09, you’ll get into the real reason for getting this high performance laptop. As soon as you turn the machine on, you’ll notice the 3200 x 1800 resolution monitor is crisp and clear. The screen doesn’t feature any anti-glare, so beware if using it near windows. However, the screen looks fantastic.
Once you begin running games, here’s what you’ll be running with. The Razer Blade RZ09 comes with a powerful Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. You’ll also find 16 GB of DDR3 SDRAM and 512 GB of SSD storage.
If you’re not familiar with the technical jargon, all this gear is at the top or very near the top of the line for gaming laptop hardware. Granted, that’s not as powerful as top of the line desktop gaming hardware, but it’s more than enough to keep a gamer happy.
You should have no problem playing most modern games on high settings without a dipping framerate. You’ll even be fine for upcoming games in the future for quite a while. You may need to dip the quality down slightly after a year or so, but this beast of a gaming laptop will get you in the game.
back to menu ↑Battery Life
The Razer RZ09 comes with one standard lithium ion battery. However, considering the power of this gaming laptop, you can’t expect to get many hours off one charge.
You can probably get about five to six hours out of one charge if you’re just using the laptop for standard computer use. Watching videos and movie, you can expect three to four hours. This is short, but it’s at least enough to get through a movie. Finally, you shouldn’t expect more than an hour or two while gaming, depending on how demanding of a game it is.
The point is that this isn’t a laptop you should expect to get a lot of use from just on the battery. It is very light and small, especially for such a powerful gaming laptop. Just remember that if you travel with it, bring the cord.
back to menu ↑Considerations
Though the Razer RZ09 is a powerful gaming laptop under $2,000, it’s not without some problems to consider. It’s a great laptop, but nothing is perfect, right?
First off, this laptop runs rather hot. It has two powerful cooling fans that works fine, but it’s still noticeably hotter than other laptops. Perhaps this is because it’s unusual to pack such powerful hardware into so small of a laptop. Either way, beware of the heat and make sure you don’t keep it in sunlight when you’re running demanding software on it.
Another thing to take into consideration is that the laptop does run louder than the average laptop. The fans in particular are noisy when the laptops formidable heat kicks up. It’s not like it’s enough noise to annoy the neighbors, but I know there are people who are bothered by noisy machines. Personally, the noise is a non-issue for me and most people. But again, it’s something to consider.
All in all, despite the considerations, the Razer RZ90 is an incredible high performance laptop. It packs incredible hardware in an impressively portable case. The price might be more than many are willing to pay, but if you can afford it you’re sure to get your money’s worth from this beast of a 14 inch laptop.

This review sucks, it’s as if you didn’t even really review the system but just wrote what you thought or have read about the system. I mean the photos seems stock and thus the review seems stock or ‘Generic’
I’m sorry to hear that. Aside from the images, what would you like to see different in the future?
